Item Description
Pablo Sanchez is about to suit up, and the other team should be worried. Backyard Football brings Humongous Entertainment's neighborhood league to the GameCube, where the Backyard kids share the field with pint-sized versions of real NFL stars and every game feels like a pickup match after school.
The kid-sized pros are a fun snapshot of the early-2000s NFL, and seeing a pint-sized star quarterback line up next to the neighborhood kids never stops being funny. Every character has strengths and weaknesses, so picking your team becomes a game of its own: do you build around a superstar or the speedy kid from down the street? You can jump into a single game or settle in for a full season, repping your favorite NFL team.
The playbook is where the series' sense of humor lives. Alongside the standard runs and passes are goofy named plays and over-the-top Power Plays. Fields trade stadiums for offbeat neighborhood venues, and Chuck Downfield calls the action from the booth with the series' trademark cornball humor.
It is football without the intimidation of a full simulation, simple enough for younger players and silly enough for anyone who remembers the Backyard Sports games from the school computer lab. On the GameCube, it brings that nostalgia to the couch.
