Taken from your clan as a child and raised by the very corporation strip-mining your world, you come home to Pandora as a stranger in your own skin. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora casts you as a Na'vi molded by the RDA's Ambassador Program, then freed fifteen years later into a homeland you barely know. The setting is the Western Frontier, a region never seen in James Cameron's films, and Massive Entertainment uses that blank space to build a Pandora that feels both familiar and newly wild.
The frontier spans three very different biomes, each home to its own clan. The Aranahe live high among the giant trees of the Kinglor Forest, the Zeswa make their home on the open Upper Plains, and the Kame'tire, herbalists and healers of the misty Clouded Forest, shape wood into tools and armor. Earning each clan's trust and learning its ways is the backbone of the story as you rally them against the RDA's expanding operations.
Played in first person, the game leans into the sheer scale of being a three-meter Na'vi: leaping across giant roots, sprinting along branches high above the forest floor and eventually bonding with your own ikran to soar over the canopy. Na'vi senses highlight tracks, plants and threats; hunting and gathering feed crafting and cooking; and RDA outposts can be taken apart quietly with a bow or loudly with the corporation's own firearms turned against it. Massive's Snowdrop engine renders Pandora's dense flora in remarkable detail, and the forest's bioluminescence after dark is a showpiece.
Built only for current-generation hardware, Frontiers of Pandora is the kind of dense, living open world the Xbox Series X was made to show off, and the campaign was designed to support two-player co-op. It is a handsome pickup for collectors of Avatar and Ubisoft's open-world catalog, and for players it is the most immersive way to step into Cameron's world without a movie ticket: Pandora at its most vivid, explored on your own terms.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person, action-adventure game set in the never-before-seen Western Frontier of Pandora. Abducted by the human militaristic corporation known as the RDA, you, a Na’vi, were trained and molded to serve their purpose. Fifteen years later, you are free, but find yourself a stranger in your birthplace. Reconnect with your lost heritage, discover what it truly means to be Na'vi, and join other clans to protect Pandora from the RDA.
