Item Description

Few open-world moments feel as free as hoisting the Jackdaw's sails, hearing the crew break into a sea shanty and steering for a smudge of island on the horizon. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag took the naval combat introduced in Assassin's Creed III and built an entire Caribbean around it, and it became the entry many fans name as their favorite in the series.

Edward Kenway is a Welsh privateer turned pirate, a rogue chasing fortune who stumbles into the war between Assassins and Templars almost by accident. His world in 1715 spans the bustling ports of Havana and Kingston and the pirate haven of Nassau, plus jungles, ruins, sunken wrecks and dozens of smaller islands waiting to be explored. Along the way he drinks, fights and schemes with real figures from the golden age of piracy, including Blackbeard, Benjamin Hornigold, Charles Vane, Calico Jack Rackham and Mary Read.

The Jackdaw is the star. Edward can board and capture enemy ships, pour the plunder into better hulls and cannons, take on fearsome legendary ships, explore the seabed in a diving bell and harpoon sharks and whales from a rowboat. On land, the familiar free-running, stealth and combat return with twin cutlasses and flintlock pistols, and the sheet music hidden around the map adds new shanties for the crew to sing while you sail. Brian Tyler's score is full of swashbuckling swagger, and the modern-day story steps out of the Animus and into an Abstergo Entertainment office, a sly twist on the series' framing.

The Wii U release brings the full pirate adventure to Nintendo's console. It is the high point of the Kenway saga, and it makes a handsome companion to Assassin's Creed III on the same shelf.

About the game

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag begins in 1715, when pirates established a lawless republic in the Caribbean and ruled the land and seas. These outlaws paralyzed navies, halted international trade, and plundered vast fortunes. They threatened the power structures that ruled Europe, inspired the imaginations of millions, and left a legacy that still endures.
