Item Condition
This is a non-foil single card from the WotC Promo set, presented here as a catalog image of this printing rather than a photo of the specific copy in hand. Articuno (22) is the real deal — a genuine Wizards of the Coast era promo card from the early days of the Pokémon TCG, and its condition is as noted in the listing.
Item Description
Articuno is one of the original Legendary Bird trio from the Kanto region, and its icy, regal presence has made it a fan favorite since the very beginning of the Pokémon franchise. The Freeze Pokémon commands an air of mystery and power that translates beautifully onto the trading card, where its flowing wings and crystalline blue palette have always given it an unmistakable visual identity. Whether you grew up hunting it down in the Seafoam Islands or simply admired it from afar, there is something deeply satisfying about holding a piece of that legacy in card form.
WotC Promo cards occupy a genuinely special corner of Pokémon TCG history. Wizards of the Coast distributed these cards through a variety of channels during their tenure as the game's publisher in North America — think magazine inserts, events, store promotions, and special packages — making them a distinct and historically significant slice of the early competitive and collector landscape. Cards from this era carry the unmistakable charm of late 1990s and early 2000s Pokémon: clean borders, expressive artwork, and that original WotC hourglass stamp that collectors immediately recognize as a mark of authenticity from the golden age of the game.
Promo number 22, this particular Articuno card stands apart from its base set counterpart by virtue of its exclusive distribution and the unique artwork that defines the WotC Promo line. These cards were not pulled from booster packs — they were sought out, earned, or tucked into a magazine you'd read cover to cover — and that backstory gives each one a personal history that standard set cards simply cannot replicate. For Articuno in particular, the legendary status of the Pokémon only adds to the card's appeal.
On the gameplay side, Articuno has historically brought Ice and Water type energy to the table, fitting neatly into decks that favor slowing opponents down and controlling the pace of a match. While the WotC-era format is a distant memory for the modern competitive scene, the Pokémon it featured remain eternally beloved, and many players still enjoy revisiting the original game as a nostalgic pastime or through retro format play.
This card is a perfect addition for WotC Promo set completers working through that iconic checklist, for Articuno fans and Legendary Bird collectors building a dedicated gallery, and for anyone who wants a genuine piece of early Pokémon TCG history in their collection.
