Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

A corrupt government, a city rebuilt as a deathtrap and one person left to expose the truth: Arena: Maze of Death reads like the back of a mid-90s action movie VHS box, and it plays with the same blunt energy. Trapped in a futuristic labyrinth by the very regime you are trying to bring down, you fight through urban mazes in search of hidden keys, the keys that open the way forward and, eventually, the evidence that can blow the conspiracy wide open.

Eden Entertainment Software built it as an isometric run-and-gun, viewed from an angled overhead perspective that makes each maze feel like a model city you are picking your way through. That viewpoint is the hook. Corridors and street corners hide enemies and dead ends, so the game becomes a mix of trigger-happy shooting and careful navigation, figuring out where the next key is tucked away before the opposition wears you down. It is a straightforward, arcade-minded structure, built for short, tense runs rather than long story sessions.

Arena arrived in 1995, late in the Game Gear's life, when Sega of America was still releasing new handheld games while most attention had moved to bigger consoles. That timing is a big part of why it is so little known today. Plenty of Game Gear owners never saw it on a store shelf, and it is the kind of cartridge that tends to surprise people who thought they knew the library.

For a Game Gear collector, that obscurity is the appeal: an original, non-licensed action game from the system's twilight years, with a dystopian premise and an isometric look that set it apart from the platformers and arcade ports around it.
