Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.

Item Description

Tap: draw three cards. That's the whole pitch, and it is a great one. Arcanis the Omnipotent is a six-mana blue legend that becomes a card-advantage fountain once it survives a turn cycle, refilling your hand every turn it stays alive and untapped.

Its second ability matters just as much. For two generic and two blue mana, you can return Arcanis to its owner's hand, which saves it from removal or a board wipe and lets you recast it later. Give it haste with something like Lightning Greaves and it draws three the turn it lands; add untap effects and it can draw far more. As a mono-blue commander it promises a deck that simply out-draws the table, and in the 99 it is a big payoff for blue decks with mana to spare.

This is the Secret Lair Drop borderless printing, collector number 498, illustrated by Peter Diamond, in foil. Arcanis first appeared in Onslaught back in 2002, and its flavor text sums up the wizard's legend: "He has journeyed where none have been before. Now he returns to ensure that none follow." Diamond's borderless art gives the old favorite a fresh face.
