Game + box: the cartridge and its box; the manual is not included. The photos are our own, taken from our stock of this game — look them over for condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.
Item Description
Every Animal Crossing player has spent an evening rearranging the same living room until it looked just right. Happy Home Designer takes that habit and turns it into the whole game. Instead of paying off a mortgage or running a town, you join Nook's Homes as its newest designer, with Tom Nook as your boss and Lottie showing you the ropes, and your job is simply to make the animals of the Animal Crossing world happy with the places they live.
Clients wander up with a request, sometimes practical and often wonderfully specific, and you build the home around it: pick the lot, choose the exterior and yard, then furnish and decorate each room inside. Everything is handled with the touch screen, dragging furniture into place, swapping wallpaper and flooring, and fine-tuning layouts until the room tells a story. Familiar villagers return in force, and part of the pleasure is designing for a cranky old favorite or a peppy newcomer and watching them react to the result.
As the job grows, so does the canvas. The town starts asking for bigger projects such as a school, a hospital, a café and shops, and your catalog of furniture and design tools keeps expanding as you unlock new techniques. The game launched alongside the first series of Animal Crossing amiibo cards and was designed so that scanning a card calls that specific villager in as a client, which gave collectors a reason to hunt for their favorites.
Happy Home Designer is the purest decorating experience the series has offered, and its ideas clearly lived on in the Happy Home Paradise expansion for New Horizons years later. On the 3DS it is a relaxed, endlessly replayable creative sandbox, and the entry to pick if the furniture catalog was always your favorite part of Animal Crossing.
