Item Description
Paul Mafayon's borderless illustration hands the whole card over to the artwork, and the flavor text written for this version makes the personality plain: "They say money can't buy happiness, but have you heard how loud I purr?" It is a playful, full-frame take on a card that has always been about collecting what it is owed.
Underneath the charm is a card that punishes greed. Alms Collector is a four-mana 3/4 Cat Cleric with flash, and whenever an opponent would draw two or more cards, that draw is replaced: they draw one card, and you draw one too. Draw-three spells, wheels and card-advantage engines stop being runaway turns and start being even trades, and flash lets you wait until someone commits to a big draw before slipping it onto the battlefield.
It is a natural fit for white Commander decks that need help keeping up on cards, and it doubles as an instant-speed blocker with a sturdy body. This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 1227, a borderless foil illustrated by Paul Mafayon.
