Item Description

Before Sonic, Sega's mascot was a big-eared kid with an oversized fist and a habit of settling boss fights with rock-paper-scissors. Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX brings his 1986 Master System adventure back with hand-drawn art, a remixed soundtrack and enough new content to surprise even players who know the original by heart. Developed by Jankenteam with publisher Merge Games, it is a loving remake of the game many people first played because it was built right into their Master System.

The quest is the same in spirit. Janken the Great has seized the kingdom of Radaxian, and Alex punches through breakable blocks, swims through underwater stages and collects money bags to spend in shops along the way. The vehicles are a big part of the fun: the Sukopako motorcycle plows through everything in its path, and the pedal-powered Peticopter lifts Alex into the sky. Then comes the game's famous twist, as Janken's henchmen Gooseka, Chokkinna and Parplin challenge Alex to rock-paper-scissors matches where a bad guess can cost him dearly.

What makes DX special is how much respect it shows the source. A single pull of the right trigger swaps the new visuals for the original 8-bit graphics in real time, so you can compare every screen side by side. The remake adds new levels, new characters and alternate boss fights that expand the lore of Miracle World, along with gameplay improvements over the 1986 release. Finish the adventure and two bonus modes unlock: Classic Mode, an upscaled version of the original Master System game, and Boss Rush, which pits you against every boss without allowing a single death.

On Xbox Series X it is a bright, colorful way to finally see Miracle World the way its pixel art always suggested, and a reminder of the era when Alex carried Sega's hopes on his small shoulders. Anyone who spent childhood afternoons stuck in Janken's castle will feel the nostalgia instantly, and newcomers get the friendliest possible introduction to a key piece of Sega history.
