Long before every phone had an animation app, a Super Nintendo cartridge invited kids to direct their own Looney Tunes shorts. ACME Animation Factory, developed by Probe Software and published by Sunsoft in November 1994, hands you the tools of a cartoon studio and the most famous cast in animation to play with.

The idea is simple and endlessly tempting: draw and alter the graphics, set them in motion, compose the music, and stage your own cartoon starring Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes gang. When it is finished, you can save your creation and play it back, which is exactly the moment every young animator wanted to show off to the family. The game works with a standard controller and is compatible with the Super NES Mouse, the peripheral Nintendo introduced with Mario Paint, which makes sketching far more natural.

Between studio sessions there are some lighter diversions too, including Solitaire and Mix 'n' Match, a Looney Tunes spin on the classic memory game Concentration. GamePro gave it a positive review and singled out how the variety of activities keeps players engaged for long stretches, along with its graphics and efficient controls.

It belongs to a small, charming corner of the SNES library where the console was treated as a creative tool rather than a game machine, alongside Mario Paint. For Looney Tunes collectors, SNES completionists and anyone who remembers sprawling on the carpet with a mouse, building a cartoon one frame at a time, it is a delightful oddity with real personality.
