Magic: The Gathering single: Academy Ruins, from Modern Masters. Our grade: Lightly Played or better. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Few lands do as much for an artifact deck as Academy Ruins. It taps for colorless mana like any utility land, but for one generic, one blue and a tap, it puts an artifact card from your graveyard on top of your library. Lost a mana rock to a board wipe, an equipment to removal or a combo piece to a sacrifice? Put it back and draw it next turn.
The best-known use is the Mindslaver lock, returning Mindslaver to the top of your library over and over so you keep controlling an opponent's turns. Commander decks run the same engine more casually, recycling Wurmcoil Engine, Solemn Simulacrum or any artifact worth seeing twice, and because the recursion lives on a land, it rarely gets caught by the removal aimed at your spells.
This is the Modern Masters printing from 2013, collector number 219, illustrated by Zoltan Boros & Gabor Szikszai, in non-foil. Modern Masters was the first Masters set, and it brought this Time Spiral favorite back with the same artwork and its flavor text about crabs looting the academy's rubble to decorate their shells.
