It starts with nine bullets. 50 Cent: Bulletproof takes the most famous chapter of Curtis Jackson's life, surviving being shot nine times, and spins it into a revenge thriller across New York's underworld. 50 answers a distress call from his old cellmate K-Dog, arrives too late, takes the bullets himself, and spends the rest of the game hunting the people behind the hit, from biker boss Spider and Triad leader Wu Jang to a corrupt DEA agent named Gabriel Spinoza, until the trail widens into an international conspiracy.
The cast is what people remember most. Eminem plays Detective McVicar, a crooked cop who trades information for favors, Dr. Dre turns up as Grizz, 50's longtime arms dealer, and G-Unit's Lloyd Banks, Young Buck and Tony Yayo roll with him into firefights. DJ Whoo Kid even plays himself, selling bootleg G-Unit music out of his trunk. For a 2005 game, it is a remarkable snapshot of who was running hip-hop at the time.
Developed by British studio Genuine Games, it plays as a third-person shooter with cover, combat rolls and on-the-fly weapon swapping, plus more than 25 brutal counter moves to master. Between missions, a hub lets you spend the cash you loot on bigger guns, health items and execution moves, and arena sequences throw wave after wave of enemies at you before a boss shows up. The music is a major part of the package: the game was built around previously unreleased 50 Cent material, with in-game playlists for the tracks and videos you unlock, and a companion soundtrack album produced largely by Sha Money XL arrived alongside it.
Critics were tough on the shooting, and it would be dishonest to call it a lost masterpiece, but the story, the music and that cast earned it a real following, and it sold strongly in its day. Now it is a pure mid-2000s time capsule from the moment when a rapper's album and a full action game could launch as two halves of the same event, and watching Eminem play a dirty cop never gets old.

Take on the role of 50 Cent as he gets caught in a web of corruption, double-crosses and shady deals that lead him on a bloody path through New York's drug underworld. Working with the unlikeliest of allies, the streets heat up as 50 takes on the most dangerous crime families in the city, uncovering an international conspiracy with devastating implications. Intended exclusively for mature players, this unapologetically violent game features the monetarily monikered rapper in its starring role, as a streetwise tough seeking revenge against a mysterious gang of thugs that filled him with lead and left him for dead. The hero can gain access to a variety of firearms and other weapons, and can learn more than 25 deadly reversal moves. In the third-person shooter style of the popular 128-bit generation Grand Theft Auto games, players follow a series of missions that lead them through the game's storyline. Bulletproof features previously unreleased music and video by 50 Cent, and the game allows players to set up their own music and video play lists of this included material.
