Sonic Riders launched in 2006 and took the Blue Blur in a genuinely wild new direction — trading rings and running shoes for hoverboards called Extreme Gear. The core racing experience is fast and flashy in the way only a mid-2000s Sonic Team production can be, with Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, and a roster of rivals tearing through gravity-defying courses on anti-gravity boards while managing an air-fuel system that keeps every lap tense.
