Item Description

Double Switch is one of the more ambitious full-motion video games to come out of the early 1990s FMV boom, and the Sega CD was one of the few home platforms capable of delivering it. Developed by Digital Pictures — the same studio behind Night Trap — Double Switch puts you in the role of an unseen security operator watching over a sprawling, eccentric apartment building through a network of hidden cameras and booby traps. The twist: two rival criminals are trying to break in, and you have to figure out which tenants are in cahoots with which crew before the situation spirals out of control. The gameplay is reactive and fast — you'll be scanning feeds and triggering traps with split-second timing, never quite sure who to trust.

What makes Double Switch stand out from its FMV peers is the cast. Corey Haim and Deborah Harry headline a genuinely charismatic ensemble, and the production commits fully to the campy thriller tone that makes the genre so watchable even decades later. The branching nature of the story means the experience genuinely changes depending on which path you follow, giving it more replay value than most FMV titles of the era. It's the kind of game that had to be seen to be believed in 1993 — and still has that quality today.

Complete in box copies of Sega CD games are a genuine find for anyone building out a serious CD-based library, and Double Switch in particular benefits from having the manual on hand — the game's mechanics are easier to get into when you know exactly what you're looking at on screen. The box art, with its moody surveillance-camera aesthetic, is a nice artifact of early multimedia gaming ambition.

This one is tailor-made for fans of FMV history, Sega CD completionists, and anyone who grew up raiding video stores for anything starring Corey Haim.
