Look over the photos for condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

Every RPG player knows the urge to reload a save after a choice goes wrong. Radiant Historia turns that impulse into the heart of its story. Stocke, a special intelligence agent for the nation of Alistel, is given a mysterious book called the White Chronicle, and with it he can step outside of time into Historia, a quiet place watched over by the twins Teo and Lippti. From there he can return to key moments, make a different decision, and watch the consequences ripple outward.

The world is caught in a long war between Alistel and Granorg while a creeping desertification turns land, and even people, to sand. Atlus splits Stocke's journey into a Standard History and an Alternate History, and progress in one often depends on knowledge or skills gained in the other: a dead end in one timeline can open up after events in the other, and allies meet very different fates depending on which path you follow. Filling in the branches and side stories on the White Chronicle's timeline becomes a satisfying puzzle in its own right.

The combat is just as clever. Enemies stand on a three-by-three grid, and many of Stocke's skills push or knock them into new squares. Shove several foes onto the same tile and your next attacks hit them all at once, while the Change command lets you swap turn order, even with enemies, to line up your party's moves into long, punishing combos. It rewards planning in a way few turn-based systems of its day did, and boss fights become tactical puzzles rather than endurance tests.

Holding it all together is a sweeping score by Yoko Shimomura, the composer behind Kingdom Hearts, and a cast that grows on you, from Stocke's partners Raynie and Marco to Princess Eruca of Granorg. The game earned strong reviews on release and a devoted following, enough that Atlus revisited it years later with Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology on the 3DS. The DS original is where the time-bending tale began, and for anyone who loved the sense of consequence in Chrono Trigger, it is a smart, tightly built RPG well worth discovering.
