Retro Studios' finale to the Prime trilogy was built from the ground up for the Wii Remote, and its pointer aiming gave Samus a speed and precision on console that still feels excellent today.

This time Samus is not alone. The Galactic Federation recruits her alongside fellow bounty hunters Rundas, Ghor and Gandrayda to stop the Space Pirates and Dark Samus from spreading Phazon across the galaxy, and an early attack leaves Samus herself infected. That corruption becomes a mechanic: her new PED Suit lets her trigger Hypermode, spending energy to unleash devastating Phazon blasts, at the risk of tipping into dangerous overload if she leans on it too often. It is a thrilling push-your-luck system that turns boss fights into tense gambles.

Corruption also opened the series up. Samus pilots her gunship between worlds, from the jungles and ruins of Bryyo to the floating SkyTown of Elysia and the Pirate Homeworld, and the Command Visor lets her call the ship in to blast obstacles or carry heavy objects. The Wii Remote gets physical with the world as well, twisting dials, pulling levers and sliding panels in ways the GameCube Primes never could. Kenji Yamamoto's atmospheric score ties it all together, and the full voice acting gives the Federation's war a cinematic weight the earlier games kept at a distance.

Corruption was later bundled into Metroid Prime Trilogy, but this is the original standalone Wii release, the version that first showed what pointer controls could do for a first-person adventure. Played on original hardware, it is a high point for Retro Studios and a fitting end to Samus's Phazon saga.
